At long last, the restored Todd-AO version of this great Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, OKLAHOMA!!! There had been fast comedies before, like 'Bringing Up Baby' (also directed by Hawks), but 'His Girl Friday' puts the genre right into the 1940s: not only is it extremely fast-paced, with dialogue like battling machine guns, it's also remarkably cynical and sinister, using a background story of a man convicted to death during time of elections.
